Public can comment on draft informal trading plan for Dunoon

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Management Directorate is inviting the public to comment on the proposed draft informal trading plan for Dunoon. The public have until Thursday, 15 October 2020 to submit their comments.

A public participation process has been initiated to give the communities an opportunity to comment on the proposals for the informal trading plan in the Dunoon area. 

Changes in trading dynamics have triggered the need to review the current informal trading plan in order to address some of the challenges and to create an enabling, supportive and well managed trading environment for all users of this public space.

‘The proposed changes will, among other things, address crime, provide bigger trading bays and most importantly, enhance the ability of traders to adhere to the COVID-19 safety regulations.

‘The City of Cape Town recognises the significance of the informal traders and its contribution to the economy and to poverty reduction. It also helps with the creation of employment opportunities that in turn contribute to the household income. The effect of the trading plan is to provide dedicated informal trading opportunities and security of tenure for informal traders in the area.

‘The City, through this public participation process, wants to put forward the best possible plan with input from the whole community for a sustainable and vibrant informal sector in order to create an environment that is conducive to the growth of businesses and the economy. It should also encourage cooperative partnerships and engagements to pull together collective resources to enhance the informal economic sector,’ said Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Management.

To view and comment on the draft informal trading plan, the public can visit www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay or the Subcouncil 3 offices, Security Reception Desk, Milnerton Municipal offices, 87 Pienaar Road, Milnerton from 08:00 until 15:00 on weekdays.
